"Going to the world cup would be a dream come true for me, I think about it every day and I’m training for that purpose” said Ignacio “Nacho” Gonzalez in conversation with Montevideo Portal. The number 10 for the Uruguayan team spoke about his present in Greece, the Uruguayan team and the World Cup.
It all started with a rumor, when it was said that Ignacio Gonzalez could be coming back to the Uruguayan Team for the friendly match that will be played in Switzerland on March 3rd. The rumor became a reality yesterday when the coaching staff of the team published the list of reserved players and Nacho Gonzalez was included.
Nacho told Montevideo Portal that since he arrived to Greece he’s been playing continuously. “I’ve already played 8 or 9 games and I‘m thrilled because that’s what I came here for, to play and continue advancing in my career, leaving behind injuries and of course, thinking about the possibility of playing in the world cup” he explained.
Regarding his physical state he said that even though in the first few matches he hadn’t felt 100% satisfied because he had been inactive for a long time, as he started playing “I feel I’ve gotten a better rhythm, and I’m feeling better, physically and with the ball”.
The team he’s currently playing in is Levadiakos, Nacho described it as a “humble, small team with few people” that is fighting to stay in first division. “We’re working on it” he said, adding that it wasn’t an easy task since there are a lot of teams that are bigger and have more fans who add a lot of pressure.
Regarding the possibility of being called for the world cup preparation matches, he explained that the coaching staff contacted him and told him that they were doing some follow up on him and wanted to know how he felt. In the end all his hard work paid off and he was put on the list of reserved players for the friendly game.
He stated that he was confident the Uruguayan team had good players and would play a good role in the world cup and added “Going to the world would be a dream come true for me, I think about it every day and I’m training for that purpose, I hope to God they keep calling me!”
